European Foods
Here at Jungle Jim's our European Village is considered Europe even though the countries are not all in Europe. If you come in the main entrance and keep going straight, you will end up in Holland, which is the beginning of our European Village.

Holland
You can find more than food in the countries at Jungle Jim's. In Holland we have Cloggy Slippers, which look like the traditional wooden shoes associated with Holland - but they are much softer. The yellow slippers are soft, comfortable and great for 'clogging' around the house. One of our best selling products from Holland are the Droste Pastilles. These chocolate 'disks' come in a variety of flavors, from white chocolate to milk and dark chocolate and even orange milk chocolate. There are 20 disks in each package, which would be enough to share - if they weren't so good! If you're looking more for great tasting food with more nutrition than chocolate, try Honig brand ready-to-make soups. Again, there is a wide variety of soups available, including Indiase Kerriesoep (Indian Curry Soup). No matter what kind of food you're looking for, the offerings in Holland may not be as well known as some other countries, but the food is just as delicious!

Ireland
Did you know that in Ireland, men typically refer to themselves as 'himself'? You might pick up the phone and ask, "Is himself there?" And our question is, "What would himself like to eat?" In Ireland, you can find many brands beginning with the letter 'O'. Oh Ryan's Irish Potatoes and O'Neills Shortbread Fingers, of course, are available here. There are also a multitude of teas. We have eleven varieties of Bewley's tea and five varieties of Barry's Tea as well as Lyon's tea available. Flahavan's Real Fruit Porridge is a twist on porridge. Traditionally, porridge was a savory dish, the basis of which was cereal crops. People added a variety of meats, root crops, vegetables and herbs to make easy and filling meals. In many modern cultures porridge is eaten for breakfast, which is where Flahavan's comes in. Flahavan's has recently added two new real fruit varieties to their product range, giving a fruity twist on a healthy breakfast. Using either sultanas, raisins, pineapple, cranberries and papaya or apples, raisins and cinnamon, their porridge is as nutritious as it is delicious!

France
France, the country where gourmet began. In case you like the great French sauces but don't like to make them, we have Benedicta Sauces. Bearnaise, Creamy Garlic, Peppercorn and Burgundy. Delicious ready-to-make sauces just waiting for your grilled, baked or broiled meats and vegetables. To go along with your meal try the Haricots Verts which are French green beans. French green beans are longer and thinner than most American varieties and are also more tender with a complex flavor. If you would like fresh Haricots Verts, look in our Produce Department. Have you ever wondered just how many different kinds of salt there is? Well, there really aren't lots of kinds, but there are lots of variations. In France, we have Sea Salt, Fisherman Salt, Butcher Salt and even Gardener Salt. How about Truffle Salt and Smoked Sea Salt? Yes, we have them as well. No matter what you're having for dinner, there's a salt to go with it. We can't leave France without talking about Valrhona Chocolates. It takes an 18 step process to make this chocolate as good as it is. They mix together cocoa beans (from similar origins or pure origin) to create superbly unique cocoa flavors. With all the varieties available, there is one you'’ll just have to have!

Spain
There are lots of foods available here that you just can't find anywhere else. Like Huevas de Merluza en aceite de olive, or Roe of Hake in olive oil. How about Pulpo, which is octopus? Because Spain is on the coast, they eat a lot of seafood like the octopus, roe, mussels, prawns and squid. In addition to all the great seafood, there are some great Sierra Rica ready-to-make soups in a variety of flavors. Along with Spanish olives, olive oils and capers, you can make any Spanish recipe more authentic with products from Spain. For dessert, pick up some Turron de Almedra Blando (Soft Almond Nougat). Turron, which is a very old, traditional sweet is said to have been originated with the Moors over 500 years ago in a small town called Jijona in Spain. Today, Jijona's economy is based on the production of turron and even harbors a museum chronicling the process and history of turrons. You can pick up some of this popular Spanish 'sweet' by visiting Spain (at Jungle Jim’s).

Greece
Tahini, honey and sesame seeds are common ingredients in Macedonian style Halva. This Greek candy is soft, usually cut in cubes and almost falls apart. Here in the Greek section of the European Village at Jungle Jim's, you have the choice of Macedonian Halva with almonds, cocoa, pistachios or plain. There are two types of halva: both are dense confections that are sweetened with honey or sugar. The semolina halva is gelatinous and translucent, while the Greek sesame halva is drier and more crumbly. Krinos is a popular brand of Greek food. They have everything from olive oil, olives and capers to ready-to-make products. Of course, Greece is known for their olives. There are several brands and types of olives to choose from here as well as at our Olive Bar next to the Jungle Jim's Deli.

Kosher
Here at Jungle Jim's, we try to have food available for every culture. This includes those who keep Kosher. During Passover we have everything you need for your Passover meal, and some items can be used for fun foods as well. Matzo is used during Passover as an unleavened bread and is also great as a dessert. Just break apart the matzah, make a syrup of butter and brown sugar to drizzle over the matzah and sprinkle on some almonds. Bake at 350° for 15 minutes and you have a Passover dessert. Chicken noodle soup is the perfect first course or main entree. Using Matzo Balls adds another dimension to your soup and we have some already made with chicken broth as well as ready-to-make box mixes. Tam Tam Crackers, Bissli snacks and Kedem juices round out our selection of Kosher products.

So remember on your next viist to Jungle Jim's, to be sure and take some time to explore the World of Food from around the globe - comfort foods from home, where ever home may be.
