Cohiba, Partagas Black and Punch Gran Cru Cigars

Cohiba is the flagship brand of Habanos. Created in 1966 for President Fidel Castro himself, these cigars were only seen outside Cuba as gifts for heads of state and visiting diplomats. Since 1982 Cohiba has been available in limited quantities to the open market. There are two distinct Lineas (Lines) of Cohiba: the medium to full flavoured Linea Clasica introduced between 1966 and 1989; and the medium flavoured Linea 1492 brought out in 1992 to mark the 500th Anniversary of Columbus’s epic voyage of discovery. Ten years later in 2002, a new size, the Siglo VI, was added to the Linea 1492.
Partagas Black is the same in namesake, and well-made in the same factory, but that is where the similarities end. Wrapped in a unique "medio tiempo" sun-grown Havana-seed leaf from the Connecticut River Valley, this is a very robust blend of Nicaraguan and Piloto Cubano ligeros. Flavors of earth, dark chocolate, and dark roasted espresso will overwhelm your senses - this is not a cigar for the timid.
Punch Gran Cru cigars are a smooth, elegant, mild-bodied smoke introduced in 1994 as a perfect counterpoint to the Deluxe. The vintage tobaccos used to produce this fine cigar are carefully aged from three to five years but the secret to the Gran Cru’s flavor is the Connecticut shade wrapper and the perfect blend of filler tobaccos from the Dominican Republic, Honduras and Nicaragua. With an even draw, a toasty aroma full of nutty and spicy flavors, and a rich, chocolaty finish, the Gran Cru is an impressive and delightful smoke.
