Dear Friends of the Cooking School,

Although I am writing this letter at the end of February, I trust that by the time you receive this brochure, the weather will be warmer and spring will be upon us. We are thankful that many loyal students braved the wintery conditions to join us for cooking classes.

Spring and summer months will see some new guest chefs joining us to share their talents in the kitchen. Jessica Vu of Bites of Nostalgia will teach two baking classes - which are a perennial request from students. Patrons of Cavu coffee shop in West Chester have been enjoying Jessica’s baked goods with a great cup of coffee. Candace Rinke of the Hawthorn Grill in Kettering will join us for a seasonal, fresh herb-focused class. In August, Joanne Drilling, the new Dining Editor at Cincinnati Magazine, shares her favorite Mediterranean meal she makes at home. Those of you who enjoy our Wine and Food classes will want to join our own Dave Schmerr and Ardie Bonanno as wine experts and chefs! You won’t want to miss them!

We continually receive requests for hands-on classes, so in response, we have planned more opportunities for students to experience hands-on cooking. Ellen Mueller will be back by popular demand with her cedar-planked salmon class and she’ll also teach a cedar-planked burger menu that will raise the bar on grilled burgers! Seafood, pizza, baking, grilling, Thai, Greek, Indian and Mexican round out the schedule. There is a hands-on class for everyone this summer!

The Cooking School at Jungle Jim’s International Market will host its second trip to the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy this spring. After rave reviews from last year, the trip sold out immediately and I look forward to traveling with fellow foodies and Don Govoni to experience the pleasures of Italian cuisine.

We hope to see you in class this summer to sharpen your culinary skills. As a thank you to our students, we’ll host a knife sharpening event on August 9 to help keep you sharp in the kitchen!

Bon Appétit,
Leigh Barnhart Ochs - Cooking School Director
