Let's call them "very enthusiastic, somewhat obsessed and possibly capsicum-crazed." These are folks who enthusiastically down blistering hot sauces, put super-hot ghost peppers in their brownies, consider spending $5,000 for a collectible bottle of hot sauce and travel from many states away to the fourth annual "Weekend of Fire" at Jungle Jim's in Fairfield. It happens Saturday and Sunday. You don't have to be crazed to join them; non-chile-heads are invited, too. After all, spicy foods are a growing mainstream interest these days. |

Oxford Wine and Art Affair Each year the Uptown Park plays host to the Oxford Wine and Art Affair. The Wine and Art Affair attracts numerous visitors from all over the Tri-State. The showcase event provides the opportunity for Chamber members to advertise, partner or sponsor auxiliary events. This year's event was special for us. Sarah Kaufmann, 'The Cheese Lady' is an important person to us at Jungle Jim's. Sarah was the Creative Services Director at Jungle Jim's for 12 years. She left two years ago to pursue her cheese carving business fulltime. Sarah was part of the Oxford, Ohio annual Wine & Cheese event this past June and had a booth sponsored by Jungle Jim's International Market. During the event, Sarah carved a smoked gouda palm tree, Jungle Jim cartoon tiki god, the show logo, a dugout canoe and Jungle Jim's logo among other carvings. Her carvings are so good that she travels the country carving cheese, has been on television and is even going to be carving a full-size astronaut in the near future. While Sarah was carving, she had samples of the different cheeses she used, with a contest for the favorite cheese sampled. The winners were gruyere and smoked gouda. But the real winners were the people in attendance. Not only were they able to sample great cheese, but they watched a nationally known, top cheese carver at work. » View pictures of Sarah Kaufmann at the event. » Read more on Oxford Press website |
